Hello everybody, welcome back 💗
A few weeks ago I wrote a post called ‘7 Ways to Improve Productivity and Get the Most Out of Your Week‘. One of my tips was about tidying your workspace to decrease distractions and I thought that today I would expand on that and talk a little bit more about how you can turn your workspace into a creative and inspirational area which might even make you ENJOY doing work.
1. Mood boards
Mood boards can be a lot of fun and are the perfect way to express your creativity. There are so many different ways to present them, from getting wooden boards, frames, or simply sticking stuff to a wall – it’s completely up to you. My favourite place to get pictures and inspiration is from Pinterest but I would definitely recommend taking your own pictures too as well as collecting different materials and fabrics that you find – whatever you like and feel inspired by. Try to update this regularly as inspiration can change throughout the year and it’s a lot easier to feel inspired by something you’re interested in right now rather than pictures you found from 3 years ago.
2. Clear space, clear mind
Expanding on my point from ‘7 Ways to Improve Productivity and Get the Most Out of Your Week‘, tidying your workspace is the perfect way to feel refreshed and clean. It helps you to focus on the work you need to do. This is also important if you are doing work from home as it is easier to get distracted by your everyday surroundings.
3. Natural light
Try to work in a room which fills up with lots of natural light or simply position your desk so that it is near/ facing a window. Not only will you find yourself feeling more awake and motivated but you’re also likely to find some inspiration by looking outside to the world around you. There’s so much outside to look at: the sky, clouds, nature. If you’re stuck for ideas, just take a look around.
4. Goals, goals, goals
What’s the point of working if you’ve got nothing to work towards? It’s hard to find the motivation to do work if you don’t know why you’re doing it or what you want out of it. Think of some goals you’d like to achieve, both short term and long term, and physically write them down. Now they feel more official, right? Jot down some day-to-day lists of what you want to achieve to reach those goals and you’ll feel much more motivated as you have something that you’re aiming for.
5. Flowers and plants
Fresh, colourful flowers and plants are the perfect solution to liven up your workspace. They not only bring so much character to a room but studies have proven that plants make you both happier and more productive. Win-win, right? There are so many beautiful plants out there that come in all shapes and sizes. This means that you can easily choose a plant to fit your aesthetic as well as accommodating it with the amount of space you have available.
That’s all of my tips for now but I’m sure they are so many more out there so let me know – how do you like to decorate your workspace? Let me know if you try out any of these tips and how they turn out!
